1:32p - And You Thought Satellite Lags Were Bad...
</i>"Work is continuing on delay-tolerant networks, or networks that can stretch across continents or planets. One of the first projects will involve setting up Internet nodes on Mars. "There is a whopping delay between here and Mars, let me tell you," said David Tennenhouse, director of research at Intel."</i>

The first thing that I thought of was, why not set up one on the moon first? Sure, the delay is only a few seconds... but I think that would be a bit easier than the several MINUTES it would take a signal to travel between ourselves and Mars.

Ran into this as part of a story linked to by this story about Sony's new robots. I remember only 10 years ago hearing the "experts" proclaim that humanoid robots would be decades away, if ever. Imagine combining this technology with those high tech love dolls I've seen on the net. Think it won't happen? When it comes to sex, it will.

ambar spent the night last night, snuggling and talking about the things that vex us. In my case, it's this ongoing sense of futility that I can't seem to shake off. I think I need to do something radical to break the spell, perhaps a trip to Mt. Shasta (the last time I felt this stuck heading up there actually HELPED).

8:37p - Taking Victory Where I Can Find It
So, after I finished kvetching at ambar last night, I noticed a remarkable thing: I felt better.

For one thing, I remembered some of my own advice, often given to people who didn't appreciate it's Zen like simplicity -- if you don't like the way things are, change them. Of course, the most common response to that was "It's not that simple".

Well, actually, it is. But it also is pretty hard to do as well. I always knew that this was a conundrum, and would freely admit it even before I shoved it back into my own face.

Today I was determined to focus my energies on learning Dreamweaver, learning how to properly handle the world of SSH, doing some writing and various bits of research. I not only did all of that, but I also remembered to eat, do the laundry (only one load? Damn, it always seems so much more!) including the folding and putting away part, and answer my mail. Oh, and I FINALLY got around to downloading some of my old journal entries, checked out the new LJ beta site, worked on learning the custom style sheets more, and... well, updated my LJ.

This may seem like a lot, but for me... well, it isn't I'm used to doing a LOT more in a day, something that I think I'm going to concentrate on slowly ramping back up to.

This doesn't mean I'm not going to go to Shasta. Far from it: I definitely have to get my butt up there, preferably before Roni and I do a road trip down to LA for a BBW Fetish Ball that is apparently planned down there in April. steelmagnoliaca is coaxing us down, tempting me with a chance to perform fellatio on this lovely large boy, something that Roni's been wanting to see for quite some time.

Okay, I have to run... I just got word that my freaking cell phone has been disconnected! I'll have to get on it ASAP.
