Yo Maniacal Tang

Cutting To The Chase

Since I have to be up in 6 hours I'll make this brief:

I start tomorrow... at 7:45 AM. Ah well, I got plenty of rest over the last 3 (!!!) years. My mom can now say I worked at NASA.

Sordid details to follow!

Just Got Home From Work An Hour Ago...

You know, in the 2 and a half years since starting this journal, I've been unemployed. Therefore, the above title takes on a very special meaning for me.

Like when I was telling kshandra that Roni probably hadn't called me after her interview today with Blowfish because I was still at work... which promptly sent me into a fit of giggles.

After all, me being on the clock again is just so weird... and it all happened so damn fast once the interview yesterday (was that only yesterday?). I suppose it should be taken as read, but just in case... it went well.

I even (FINALLY) got kshandra's computer working again... turns out to have been a power supply problem. I know, not what one thinks of as far as boot failures, especially with all the lights and fans running. Koosh sez it WAS second hand, after all, so we should be surprised.

I actually got the good news just as I walked through her door to tackle it, saying that the interview went so well I felt like I could tackle anything and make it work. How's that for positive universe reinforcement?

I called my Mom, who really loved the news. As K and I discussed this evening, it's important to make the distinction that I'm working AT NASA, not "for" them. Actually, it's a bit more twisted: ACS just had the their contract bought out, so I'm working for Apex, for ACS, at NASA only until April 1... then I'm working for Apex for Lockheed at NASA. Gotta love government sub-contracting!

Who cares... I'm getting to see some really cool stuff, though my biggest frustration right now is the lag time in getting assorted paperwork through channels so I can actually configure systems. People might think being paid for standing around doing nothing is a great gig, but it makes me NUTS. Especially since by the end of the day it was all I could do NOT to help out.

At least I was able to assist, at least verbally, with a couple of odd problems today, which made me feel less like a hourly paid dress dummy.

So, the 8 to 5 is going to be my usual schedule, with the likely event of overtime and weekends. I'm still in a bit of shock, really... between rushing to get paperwork done after fixing K's computer last night, I haven't had a chance to just have it sink in.

Ask me again in two weeks.
